Chief Engineer's Log

My team's efforts to modify the Dallas' shields and optimize inertial dampeners to withstand the ion storms within the Rolor Nebula have revealed the slap-dash efforts of the refit team. The EPS relays in the areas untouched by the refit are outdated by at least thirty years, and simply can't handle the output of a modern warp core at full capacity. I've written and installed a subroutine to assist in keeping the energy flow properly regulated, but it's only a bandage on the problem. Unfortunately, the fix is going to see my team upgrading the old relays in transit, a handful at a time, until the energy transfer grid is uniform.
Already, the Dallas has taken a brief detour to a nearby debris field in order to obtain the mass required to fabricate the required parts using our replicators, and Cargo Bay #3 is filled with rocks and the smell of metal burnt from vacuum exposure. Updated duty rosters have been sent to the XO for confirmation; the sheer scale of the job is going to see my Engineering staff pulling double shifts to get it done in a timely fashion. All this, so soon after overhauling the shield emitters - repairs that likely wouldn't have been necessary if the EPS relays had been up to spec to begin with.
On a separate note, Lt. Aeglossil is already proving her keen mind as my assistant chief; her recommendations have been insightful and useful, and I have yet to find any issues with her work. I believe her negative reputation to be undeserved, but only time will verify my initial assessment.
