First Foray with Nova
Hello, everyone
Thank you for the RP once again last night. For many of us this will be our first foray into the system since the site was set up, and it can be a bit daunting at first, it is likely nothing like any other system you will have used before!
How to use the system
A few of you may still be unsure how to use the system, as I say, it is a very uniquely laid out system. However, I have been in the process of writing a userguide in our Wiki which is being constantly updated and amended. you can find the wiki here or by clicking "Memory Alpha Uplink" at the top of the page.
In particular, I would advise you look through the Gameplay Manual as it will feature useful tips on using the software, and other information relating to the ship to spice up our RP a little bit.
A few issues, however
As some of you may have noticed, the e-mails sent out when submitting a personal log is blank. This isn't intended, and I am working with the developers towards a fix.
The actual RP itself went very well, I felt, but there are a few things I'd like to address;
- Timing, this was a big one. I do understand that the time this week had changed, but please ensure you remember for next time, you can check the time the event will be held at in your timezone by using this link, if you are in the STORP Steam Group which will alert you whether you're ingame or not.
- As a side note, please remember that anyone can add events to this calendar, so if you want to run your own, by all means do so!
- Free time; the RP itself does typically contain the period you would see in an episode, there is obviously an emphasis on duty, but there's time throughout that to work on personal projects and other recreation.
- Obviously, STO doesn't lend itself very well to this, there is no holodeck to speak of, and various areas on the ship aren't very interesting places to be spending time off duty, do call out in Zone chat if you're going to the mess hall or somewhere, we can expand on a lot of our RP this way
- As the Captain, I can't be everwhere or do everything IC or OOC
- Department Heads should provide their specific areas with detailed tasks to do which will support the overall RP (A good example of this yesterday was with the ongoing medical examinations, or engineering going over the power conduits. Good stuff!)
Sorry about the spot of negativity
On the whole, the RP went very well, and it was an enjoyable time I'd hope!
We shall have to make it a tradition of sorts for the social gathering that occurs after each RP, it does allow for some additional character development that you might not otherwise be able to get.
Thanks once again, I hope to see you all next week!

I also learned that the system doesn't like HTML in news posts, so I shall remember that for the future!
